My aim was to make a piece that stimulated curiosity regarding the significance of the number three in Western culture (in nature, art, religion, popular culture, etc). The lines denote interconnectivity whilst the shadows, which are integral to the piece, reflect the unrecognised prevalence of the number three. Red references being one of three sisters and our blood connection.
Organza and thread were the perfect materials to explore the theme. I hand cut “threes” of my own design in various shades of red. Layers of “threes” are connected by machine embroidered polyester thread. The materials produced lines, effects and shadows.
Media: organza, polyester thread. Dimensions: 48cm wide x 64cm high.
